HOME GROWN WRITERS SERIES ON AT PAGES BOOKSTORES
LOCAL and Caribbean authors are getting their moment of glory this month as Pages Bookstores hosts the Home Grown Writers' Series.
The showcase, mounted every Thursday at Pages in Cave Shepherd on Broad Street, is aimed to expose the work of local and Caribbean authors to customers to the store and will feature the works of local cultural expert and heritage icon Addington Forde and editor emeritus at the Nation Publishing Company, Harold Hoyte.
Tracey Lloyd, regional director of Duty Free Caribbean explained that this was one of the companies many attempts to expose the works of local and regional writers: "This time of year we usually get a number of returning nationals on holiday and many of them come to our store looking for local and regional products to take back with them.
"We try to facilitate that interest and expose them to these local works, which is why we are hosting the Writers Series at this time. We want to stress however that this series is also for locals, as we know there are many, who are avid readers and want the opportunity to meet the many talented authors we have right here in the Caribbean."
Authors Astra Babb and Michael Presley will appear this Thurday, July 17, with Addington Forde and Alvin Cummins following on July 24 and Harold Hoyte concluding the series on July 31. Other featured authors have included Leroy Straker, Herbert Reifer and former Miss World, Jennifer Hosten, who wrote an autobiography about her life after being the first Caribbean woman to win an international title.
