CAVE SHEPHERD GIVES ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT TO COASTAL ZONE UNIT

IN RECOGNITION of the International Year of the Reef, Cave Shepherd has partnered with the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) to create awareness about Barbados' coral reefs.

The partnership will see a team from the CZMU at Cave Shepherd's new The Beach Department on Broad Street on February 18 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. educating customers about the environment.

Ramon Roach, a water quality analyst with the unit noted that the activities formed part of the unit's Love Your Corals month aimed at raising awareness about the benefits and features of Barbados' corals.

"As this is the International Year of the Reef, we think it is very important for us to do what we can to educate Barbadians and visitors alike on the importance of our coral reefs and this will be a good first step towards the kind of sensitisation we want to create.

"We are grateful to Cave Shepherd because they volunteered to be a part of this activity. We approached them and they were very eager," said Roach.

Tracey Lloyd, regional director of marketing for Duty Free Caribbean said that the members of the unit will also be handing out literature and the store's employees in The Beach Department will also be dressed in promotional shirts.

"This is a partnership we feel strongly about. The environment, and particularly the preservation and enjoyment of our local waters, is what we promote here at The Beach and this gives us the opportunity to create the kind of awareness that we want our customers to have," said Lloyd.
