READING FEST ON AT PAGES BOOKSTORES FOR CHILD MONTH
Pages bookstores and Kiwanis are teaming up to make reading fun!
Pages Bookstores across the island will be hosting two-hour reading sessions for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning this Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Cave Shepherd Broad Street.
Tracey Lloyd, regional director - marketing for Duty Free Caribbean, expressed delight in working with the Kiwanis, stating that the project provided Pages with another opportunity to show the community its interest in expanding children's education.
"May being the Month of the Child, made this an excellent opportunity to re-emphasise the importance of reading 'books' to children growing up in this electronic age.
"Our sessions will cater to children aged five to 12 and will be filled with fun, laughter and lots of learning. They will be introduced to books such as 'Little Brown Bear' by Enid Blyton, 'Oakey's Perfect Day' by Jillian Harker, 'Count and Read, 1,2,3' by Brown Watson and 'Pride and Prejudice', a Puffin classic by Jane Austin," Lloyd added.
Joycelyn Watts-Phillips, Kiwanis club president, noted that her members wanted to work on a project for Child Month in keeping with the club's theme, 'Reading is Fundamental'.
"We are pleased to work with Pages on this project which serves the dual purpose of encouraging more children to read, while introducing them to the wonderful stories and books Pages has to offer," explained Watts-Phillips.
Children participating will be eligible for give-aways of books and CD/book combinations from Pages Bookstores as well as Nesquick Mugs and Nestum bunnies from Nestle. The Reading Fest continues May 19 at Pages Sunset Crest and May 26 at Pages JB's from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and June 2 at Pages Warrens from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
