WINDSURFING CAMP COMES TO AN END
Twenty Barbadian children aged six to fourteen, are now equipped with windsurfing skills learned from world-ranked windsurfer, Brian Talma.
The group recently showed off their aptitude at Sandy Beach, Christ Church at the end of a two-week camp hosted by Talma in association with Cave Shepherd and the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports.
Spokesperson for the campers, 12-year old Dylan Marshall, said the camp was a great learning experience for them. "We learned to tack, jive and freestyle but we also learned how to function on land as well, to be more confident when talking to people and taking care of our beach."
Duty Free Caribbean's events coordinator, Kim Tatem, said, " Cave Shepherd is always willing to support the youth and we saw this as a good opportunity to introduce the sport of windsurfing and to promote our beach culture which ultimately affects tourism and we hope that this will the first of many exciting summer events to come."
Windsurfing races to show off their newly acquired skill and certificates of completion were the order of the final day of camp. "It went really well and everyone, including our youngest, easily picked up the art of windsurfing. The camp was very successful and a great way to promote our beach culture. It was good to see the youth involved in this sporting activity," explained Talma.
